Finally got the chance to go out and shoot some portraits with the Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM out that Chung Hom Kok today. Weather a bit overcast but still managed to take some decent pics. Click the following pics for a larger pic.
Some test pics I took with the Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM. Click pic for full picture view. They are not the best test pics, but hope it can give you some insights as to how the lens perform.
Woot, the long-awaited SONY 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G SSM lens finally arrived here in Hong Kong last night and I got mine this morning. Initial feeling, light, way lighter than I anticipated. Price is HK$5,480 (US$703)(cash price, EPS would incur additional 1% service charge) at Citicall. For now, let’s look at some pics (included measurement comparisons), enjoy.
The DSLR market been reallt busy this month. First the Sony announced the Alpha 200 to replace the A100 and yesterday they announced two more new DSLRs, the Alhoa 300 (10.2-megapixel) and Alpha 350 (14.2-megapixel) which features live view on a 2.7″ LCD. Both cameras offer the Sony’s new “Quick AF Live View” technology so you can frame photos on the camera’s LCD without sacrificing auto-focusing speed common to other live-view systems.
The DSLR-A300 kit with a DT 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 standard zoom lens will ship in April for about $800. The DSLR-A350 camera body will be available in March for about US$800, and the DSLR-A350 kit with a DT 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 3.9x zoom lens will be available for about US$900 at the same time.

I’m personally using the Sony Alpha 700 now for three months and I’m loving it. Rumors said the new Flagship, the A900 (with full-frame and 24-megapixel), will be launched mid-this year and I’m truly looking forward to that.
Lately, I joined the ranks as a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera owner (the Sony A700, more on that later in the week) and I’ve been looking around for a digital wallet for both storage and reviewing the pictures. While researching on that topic, I received a query over this blog site’s Meebo IM and a reader asked me my take on digital wallet as well. As promised, I’m going to post up my take, however, as I am totally new when it comes to DSLR and their accessories, so if there’s something you want to add, please feel free to leave a comment.
Well, in looking for a digital wallet, my criteria are -
And it boils down to the Epson P-5000, which features a 80GB hard disk, a 4 inch ( 640 x R-YG-B-EG x 480 dots) TFT LCD screen, supports SD/SDHC Memory card /Multimedia card *3/Compact flash/Micro Drive (no Memory Stick though), USB 2.0 and it functions as a PMP as well, capable of playing the following formats -
Sounds too good to be true. Price tag, a bit hefty at HK$4,725 (US$606). For a cheaper model, the Epson P-3000 with the same specs but with a 40GB hard disk will cost you around HK$3,360 (US$430). Well, would I be getting it? yes if I had sold my Sony UX-27 as I said I would earlier, but thank God I didn’t. I am now using it as a digital wallet as well. Who would have guessed that this UMPC could double up as a digital wallet as well.

People keep asking me whether there are any decent alternatives to the iPods and Zunes (there are quite a few anti-Apple and anti-Microsoft ppl out there, LOL) and yet with par performance. The answer is yes (only if you hate Sony too). The all new Sony Walkman A610 and 810 are two very nicely made walkmans (remember that plastic cassette player from back then), which are more user-friendly now in terms of the user-interface. It no longer uses their own SonicStage platform but followed the mainstream with the windows drag-and-drop via the exploer or the Windows Media Player. Both walkmans are available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities.
pocketables.net have two new reviews out on the Sony A610 an 810, links below -
Will be moving next month to the new apartment (hopefully, the renovation project is already 3 weeks behind). In the midst of packing, I have decided to sell off some of my gears, gears which I treasured and are all in great condition. First off, I’m selling my SONY UX27GN which I obtained back in May this year. I figured I will offer it to my readers first before posting it on eBay. The UMPC is still under warranty for another six months from Sony Hong Kong. Email me at gadget@hkphooey.hk if you are interested (I do have a reserve price, but please don’t ask, just offer me whatever you can afford or think is reasonable). Click here to see the specs.
Mitchell Oke from Gear Diary posted his My Gear Bag article two weeks ago and inspired me to do the same. Took me longer than I thought but here it is, My Gear Bag. Wonder what’s in yours.
As usual, Mobileo1 came up with yet another great review with tons of pics (a few really good closeups too). Click here for the English review and here for the Chinese.
