What They Charge for In-room Broadband @ Makati Shangri-La

What they charge for broadband at Makati Shangri-La

So checked into Makati Shangri-La for four days, both business and pleasure.  The hotel sure looks great given its five-star status, but so are the charges for in-room broadband.  Figure this one out, US$1=PHP43 or HK$1=PHP5.  Ouch. Can’t believe people are still making money off this.

Now I’m blogging from the Lobby Lounge where they are charging a bit less for the WiFi, PHP250 per hour.  The good thing is that if I consume more than that amount on my food and beverage bill (by the hour), it’s free.

  1. Haha. Well, it’s like that here. You should check the official iPhone carrier plans that we have here.

  2. This is a constant source of annoyance in Asia, especially among 5-star hotels. Most motels in the US and Canada provide broadband free of charge. Only Europe is more expensive.

I can see them charging extra if you want to use videoconferencing or other high-bandwidth applications, but US$20+ per day for checking your email is extortionate.
