Iraq court upholds Saddam death sentence

According to Reuters, An Iraqi appeals court on Tuesday upheld Saddam Hussein’s death sentence for crimes against humanity and said he should hang within 30 days.  “The appeal court has approved the death sentence. They (the government) have the right to choose the date starting from tomorrow up to 30 days. After 30 days it will be an obligation to implement the sentence,” the head of the Iraqi High Tribunal, Aref Abdul-Razzaq al-Shahin, told a news conference.  Guess what others have to say…..

Human rights groups condemned his trial as seriously flawed and called on the government not to carry out the sentence, which comes amid raging violence between Saddam’s fellow Sunni Arabs and majority Shi’ites.

The White House called the court’s decision a “milestone” in replacing tyranny with rule of law.

Sunni Arab leaders reacted angrily to the ruling, saying it was politically motivated by Saddam’s former enemies now in power in a U.S.-backed Shi’ite-led national unity government.

I say, it’s about time.

MOD of the Day

Photo from Modblog

Saw this awesome mod from Modblog (ModBlog is a body modification blog featuring some of the best images and stories from the BME archives. It is maintained primarily by Shannon Larratt), a great site on mods.  Love the vibrant colour of the above tattoo (mod), this wondferful Memnto Vivere music forearm sleeve is done by Joshua Bowers at Sacred Skin in Des Moines, IA.  Truly a piece of art.

Pic(s) of the Day – bad fashion taste

Well, got some deadlines to meet here in the office, not in a great mood to post anything.  Felt kinda bad, wanted to go for the record for posting consecutively for four days, what the heck, got these pics.  Being a pretty fashionable guy myself, I seriously do not find the above acceptable.  Unless it’s a Friday when I’m totally pissed in Wanchai or LKF, somehow seeing the butt cracks of girls in bright day light is just TOO much for me.  What u think?

Shanghai – rise in HIV/AIDS cases

Photo from the Shanghaiist, simply the photo of the day.

The Shanghai Daily ran an article on the captioned title today.  Extract of the article as follow –

“Shanghai registered 621 new HIV carriers this year through November 20, compared with last year’s 370 new patients, the center said.

The city also reported 46 new AIDS patients, double last year’s figure. Shanghai’s total number of AIDS patients and HIV carriers over the past 20 years now stands at 2,216. Among them, 97 have died from the disease.

Last week, China reported that its registered cases of HIV/AIDS jumped almost 30 percent to 183,733 in the first 10 months of the year, with intravenous drug use the biggest source of infection. World health officials said the increase showed China was doing a better job testing and tracking the disease. They also said the actual number of AIDS/HIV cases was probably several times higher.”

Bangkokchat – pervert stalking a Thai girl (old read)

Came across an old article (2003) from Mango Sauce about a farang stalking a Thai girl awhile back and wanted to share with you all.  The article covered the dialogues exchanged between them and it is funny as hell.  Hope you all enjoy reading it this Monday morning, to cure whatever blues you might have.  Click here for the article.

In Depth Review – Treo 750V

Treo 750V

Paul from Modaco posted this very in depth review on the new Treo 750V, click here to read.  An excerpt to his conclusion as follow:

“And so to the conclusion.

Whether the Treo 750v is the device for you depends massively on what you want from a device. If you want the latest specifications including a high quality camera, WiFi, video calling etc. etc., then the Treo 750v is probably not for you.

If you need a device that is as thin as possible, then the Treo may not be for you… but be really sure that size is the most important thing to you before dismissing it! It may be a little on the large side, but compared to devices such as the Fujitsu T830 it’s not, and it is still very pocketable.

If you need a workhorse device with a good thumboard, great one handed use cusomisations and build quality that means it should be able to take the strain like no other, then the Treo 750v could be what you need. Make sure that the proprietary connectors and lack of charging over USB aren’t going to cause you a problem, then make your choice smile.gif

The Treo 750v is a good first effort in Europe for Palm, hats off to them for making a device that in the end I am rather fond of, despite my reservations.

I’d like to close the review with a plea to Palm…. PLEASE recognise that you can still make great devices without making them look EXACTLY like the last Treo smile.gif.”

The knockoff project

Have this site linked on my blogroll for quite sometime and didn’t have time to do a writeup.  If you’re like me, late thirties to forties, who are into record album cover art, then you might like this site.  (No updates since 2003)  There’s altogether seven sections which shows original artworks and their knockoffs, pretty neat, hope you enjoy.

First Look – Sony Mylo Com-1

Sony Mylo

The Sony Mylo Com-1 is out for HK$3,500 (US$450). With only 802.11b WiFi connection and a 2.4″ 320×240 QVGA display, I don’t think it’s all that great a gadget. The Mylo comes with Yahoo Messenger, Skype and Google Talk pre-installed, but no MSN Messenger (though I can install it from its Ad Hoc Application function). Apart from the communication functions, the Mylo is basically a PMP (or a mini-size PSP) which plays movies (MPEG 4 and AAC format) and sound files (MP3, WMA and ATRAC). Other features includes 1GB storage and a pull out QWERTY keypad. For details on Mylo, please click here.

Read the fine prints

Zimbabwe Note

Extracted this from a Chinese blog, 聞.見.思.錄, nothing to do with the article, it’s just this $500 note above that intrigues me.  Let me ask you a question, are you one of those guys who examines all the bank notes in your pocket?  I know a few peeps who do so for collection purpose, they look for printing flaws or what not.  However, the bank note above is genuine, notice anything different?  It says “Pay the bearer on demand five hundred dollars on or before 31 December 2007.  Guess you didn’t notice.  Reason maybe due to the latest restructure of the country’s currency system, guess they’re not sure whether they can still make good of the payment after that date.

In 1939 today, a letter from Albert Einstein was delivered to President Franklin D. Roosevelt concerning the possibility of atomic weapons.  Given the North Korea crisis, makes one wonder…….
