NBA Playoff – Son’s BBall Blog – Apple TV/NBA League Pass Rant

For those who knows me and my family, they know that me and my eldest kid are both basketball freaks.  My kid even have his own basketball blog, High School Basketball Nerd.  Check it out if you have time.

With the NBA playoffs underway and my Celtics through to the second round with their sweep over the New York Knicks, think I’ll just bable a bit over bball here.

Got my Apple TV (2nd generation) couple months back shortly after knowing that it would support airplay over WiFi from my iOS devices to the Apple TV and with MLB.TV and NBA Game Time added as streaming content options with the Apple TV Software Update 4.2, I thought I was all set for NBA postseason and Baseball Opening Day.

Turns out, up till today, not a whole lot of iOS apps supports airplay, although MLB.TV works fine on the Apple TV, NBA Game Time doesn’t work outside of U.S. with the NBA international league pass.  According to NBA.com, “at this time NBA International League Pass does not have an Apple TV application. Future support for the Apple TV and other connected devices is in the works, but we do not have a timeline for release just yet.” Bumming…major bumming… have to stick with watching live games on my Mac or NBA TV on my cable network.

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP)—Michael Chang finds it appropriate he’s receiving his sport’s highest honor as China awaits the Olympics.

Chang was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday and reflected on his experiences as a Chinese-American athlete. He won the 1989 French Open at age 17—the youngest man to win a major—as the Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing were escalating into bloodshed.

“For me, at the French Open, if I wasn’t playing my match I was glued to CNN watching the events unfold,” Chang said during a news conference before his induction. “The crackdown actually happened that Sunday of the French Open.”

Bummer – No Rugby Sevens Tickets

[22 March 2007] So, sitting here pondering. A little more than a week from the Rugby Sevens and still no luck in getting tickets (last offer I got off some forum was $2,800 for 3-day pass, gee). I am now starting to make up stupid excuses for myself for missing the event and I came up with the best one, SMOKING is banned in the stadium, LOL.

[Updated: 25 march 2008] Hmm… where are all my CX friends when I needed them. Hopefully I can grab a few tickets fast before Friday. What’s the going rate for 3-day pass these days BTW? anyone?

Email me at gadget@hkphooey.hk if you know anyone selling, thanks in advance.

Hope Celtics can get Yi Jianlian

Just learned that my favourite Boston Celtics lost out on the lottery draw and they’re picking fifth in the upcoming draft on 28 June.  Major bummer.  Hope Yi Jianlian (YJL) is still available.  Who is YJL someone might ask, well, he’s the next Yao Ming, the 19-year old 7-footer from Shenzhen.  Check out his moves in the Nike video above (YJL in blue shirt), cool as hell.  Want to see more, his top 10 dunks vid below.
